Enhanced Net Metering launches

Last week NS Power launched enhancements to our net metering program, which I first discussed in a previous post. Under Net Metering, customers can offset all or part of their electricity consumption with energy produced by their own generator. The program helps provide more options to customers that are looking to reduce their reliance on the provincial electricity grid.

As part of the Provincial Government’s Renewable Electricity Plan, Nova Scotia Power was asked to provide enhancements to the current program that enable more customers to take part and I’m pleased to say that we’ve had additional interest in the program since those changes were first announced. Now, customers will be reimbursed at the end of each year at the same base rate they pay for electricity if their ‘net’ energy production exceeds what they consumed. In addition, customers are able to use a generator with up to 1 megawatt of capacity to produce energy for multiple accounts, provided they are in the same distribution zone. It’s safe to say that some of these changes require additional explanation. If you’re interested in learning more about net metering, we’ve posted more information at nspower.ca/netmetering, including an animation that can help you determine if the program is right for you. As always, I’m happy to answer any questions in the comment section below.

Thanks for reading,

Robin
